How to decide whether a purchase-required competition is for you
A sensible way to assess qualifying purchases without letting a prize drive unnecessary spending.

Purchase-required competitions can be legitimate promotional campaigns, but they deserve a different decision process from free-entry promotions. The key question is whether the qualifying purchase makes sense independently of the chance to win.
Check exactly what qualifies
The terms may specify products, pack sizes, retailers, dates or loyalty-card requirements. A similar item may not count. Keep the receipt or other evidence if the rules require it.
Look for an alternative route
Some promotions provide a free or no-purchase entry method. Where one exists, read the instructions carefully because the route may have its own format and deadline.
Avoid buying only for the chance
If you would not otherwise want the product, consider whether the competition is really worth the cost. A prize draw is uncertain and should not be treated as a way to recover spending.
Check entry limits
Multiple purchases do not always mean unlimited entries. There may be daily, household or total caps.
Keep the promotion in perspective
Fearless labels purchase requirements to make them easier to filter. The promoter's terms determine the valid route and should always be checked before spending money.
