Competition terms use recurring language. Understanding a few common phrases makes it much easier to scan a promotion and identify the details that matter.

Promoter
The organisation legally responsible for running the promotion. This may be different from the retailer, social account or media partner advertising it.

Eligibility
The conditions a person must meet to enter, such as residence, age, customer status or exclusions for employees and connected people.

Entry period
The time between opening and closing when valid entries can be submitted. Exact times and time zones may apply.

Entry limit
The maximum valid participation allowed per person, household, purchase, day or other defined unit.

No purchase necessary
A phrase indicating that a qualifying purchase is not required for at least one valid entry route. Follow the specified free method rather than assuming how it works.

Prize draw
A selection process in which a winner is chosen from valid eligible entries according to the stated draw mechanic.

Instant win
A promotion where an eligible entry can receive an immediate result during the campaign.

Claim period
The time a selected winner has to respond or provide required verification before the promoter may follow the process stated for an unclaimed prize.

When a term is unclear, the definition in the specific promotion's rules should take priority over general usage.
