How no-purchase and free alternative entry routes work
How to recognise a genuine alternative route and follow its instructions correctly.
Some promotions that have a paid, purchase-linked or premium route also provide a free alternative method. The existence and mechanics of that route should be checked in the official terms for the specific promotion.
Find the exact instructions
An alternative route may be online, postal or another method. Copying an address or format from an older competition can make an entry invalid, so use the current terms.
Follow formatting requirements
Postal routes may ask for your name, address, contact details, competition reference or other information. Some require a particular envelope or postcard format. Missing required details can invalidate the entry.
Understand ordinary costs
“Free alternative” usually means the promoter does not charge an entry fee. Postage or standard network costs can still apply depending on the method.
Check the deadline
A postal route may need to be received by a date rather than merely posted by it. Allow enough time for delivery and processing.
Respect the entry limit
A free route does not necessarily create unlimited entries. The same person, household or daily cap can apply across all methods.
Fearless can label competitions with a free alternative where recorded, but always verify the current route and limit with the promoter before entering.
