How purchase-required competitions work

Qualifying products, receipts, entry codes and alternative routes explained.

A purchase-required competition links a valid entry to a qualifying transaction. These promotions are common in retail and product campaigns, but the exact requirement varies considerably.

Identify the qualifying purchase
The terms may specify particular products, sizes, retailers, dates or minimum spend. Buying a similar product is not necessarily enough.

Keep the evidence
Receipts, order confirmations, packaging or unique codes may be required to validate a winner. Keep whatever the terms say is necessary until the promotion and claim period have ended.

Follow the entry step
A qualifying purchase may only make you eligible to enter; you may still need to complete a form, upload a receipt, enter a code or perform another action.

Check the entry limit
One purchase can equal one entry, but promotions can also impose daily, household or total caps. Multiple items on one receipt may not always create multiple entries.

Look for alternatives
Some purchase-linked promotions offer a free route. If so, follow its exact instructions and deadline rather than assuming it works like the purchase route.

Fearless marks purchase requirements where structured information is available. Always use the promoter's current terms before spending money for an entry.
