How travel prize terms work

Dates, airports, guests, insurance and exclusions to check before entering a holiday competition.

Travel prizes can contain more practical conditions than almost any other prize category. A high headline value does not guarantee that every cost or date is flexible.

Travel window
Check whether the trip must be taken on fixed dates or within a booking period. Peak dates, school holidays and public holidays can be excluded.

Departure point
Flights may leave from a specified airport. Travel from your home to that airport may not be included, which can matter greatly for entrants in Ireland, Northern Ireland or different parts of Great Britain.

Guests
The terms should state how many people can travel and whether guests must meet age or other conditions. The winner can be responsible for ensuring everyone has valid travel documents.

Included costs
Look for flights, accommodation, transfers, meals, insurance, visas, taxes, resort fees and spending money. Anything not stated as included may remain the winner's responsibility.

Substitution and availability
Hotels, airlines or experiences can be subject to availability or equivalent substitutions. Read the terms before assuming the promotional image is the exact itinerary.

Enter only when the practical conditions would allow you to use the prize if selected.
