What happens after a competition closes?

A typical journey from the final entry to winner verification and prize fulfilment.

When a competition closes, the public entry stage ends, but several steps can remain before a prize reaches the winner. The exact process depends on whether the promotion uses a random draw, judging, instant-win allocation or another mechanic.

Entries may be checked first
Promoters can remove entries that do not meet the rules before selecting or confirming a winner. Purchase evidence, age, residence or entry limits may need verification.

Winner selection follows the terms
Random draws and judged competitions use different processes. The terms should explain the selection method and, in many cases, the expected timing.

The winner is contacted
A promoter may use email, phone, direct message or another stated method. A response deadline can apply. If you receive a message, compare it with the original promotion before sharing personal information.

Eligibility can be verified
The provisional winner may need to confirm identity, address, age or qualifying purchase details. This is different from an unexpected request for sensitive credentials.

Prize fulfilment can take time
Physical delivery, travel booking and high-value prizes can take longer than a simple digital voucher. Keep the terms and correspondence until the process is complete.
